Overview
Intermediate Electrical Engineer - Advanced English is a role at GHD. The Engineering Design Organization (EDO) is looking for a dynamic and motivated individual to tackle the role of Intermediate Electrical Engineer. You will work as a member of the multidiscipline design team on a broad spectrum of electrical aspects for multiple projects including new installations, upgrades of existing systems, testing, commissioning, and system optimization. Projects may include water and wastewater treatment plants, industrial plants, solid waste, and non-utility power generation plants in municipal and industrial markets.
Responsibilities
- Leading proposal requests, developing design and construction fees, and report writing
- Completing condition assessments for various facilities including report writing and participation in client meetings
- Preparing detailed design drawing packages for projects of varying scale, including utility interconnection, substation design, electrical system protection and coordination, LV / MV power distribution and motor control, standby power systems, building services (lighting, security, etc.), fire alarm and communications systems, DC systems, grounding, equipment layouts
- Completion and review of electrical design calculations
- Preparation of contract documentation including equipment specifications, cable / conduit schedules, installation specifications, equipment procurement documents, sub-contractor requisitions, scope of work, bill of materials, and process narratives
- Technical review and quality control of design drawings and documents with professional sealing where applicable
- Coordination with clients, vendors, other disciplines, authorities, and Hydro throughout design and construction phases
- Support during tendering and construction including responding to RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, evaluating electrical reports, site inspections, testing plans, change orders, and project meetings
- Coordination of electrical system designs with other engineering disciplines, vendors, and outside design team members; provide direction to internal designers / drafters
- Ensure engineering designs adhere to business line standards and participate in developing technical standards for the business line
- Collaborate across business lines and with external teams to assist in securing additional projects
Skills, Competencies and Qualifications
5-10+ years of experience in the design and implementation of MV and LV electrical systems including substations, motors and drives, power distribution, power generation; working knowledge of field instrumentation and automated equipment integrationB.A.Sc. in Electrical EngineeringExperience in transit projects is an assetExperience in facilities electrical systems including lighting, fire alarms, and security is an assetExperience with design-build projects is an assetStrong analytical skills, attention to detail, and diligent follow-up with sound judgmentSelf-motivated with a strong desire to learnStrong organizational, interpersonal, and written / oral communication skillsAbility to work independently with minimal supervisionProven communication and collaboration skills to coordinate with teams and stakeholdersWhy GHD?
