Overview

Seeking an experienced Substation Design Engineer to deliver high-voltage substation projects (38kV–400kV) from tender through detailed design and construction. The role covers electrical design, compliance with Irish Grid Codes / EirGrid / ESB standards, and coordination across disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare technical inputs for tenders (concept designs, SLDs, material take-offs).
  • Lead HV / MV substation design (AIS & GIS : primary, lightning, earthing, cabling).
  • Supervise consultants and ensure quality, schedule, and compliance.
  • Review specifications for major equipment and perform system studies.
  • Coordinate with civil, structural, protection / control, and telecom teams.
  • Provide technical oversight during supplier reviews, FATs, and commissioning.

Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering (Level 8+).
  • 7–10 years’ experience in substation design.
  • Familiarity with EirGrid / ESB standards desirable.
  • Chartered Engineer (or working toward) preferred.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, ETAP / DigSILENT, EPLAN, MS Office.
  • Strong communication and client-facing skills.
