Relocation : Vice President of Environmental, Health, Safety & Training (EHS&T)

A publicly traded global leader in renewable energy is seeking a Vice President of Environmental, Health, Safety & Training (EHS&T) to lead a transformational shift in how safety is managed across its global portfolio.

VP EHS&T is an executive leadership role and is part of the company’s Electricity Segment global leadership team. The role is responsible for leading the Environmental, Health, Safety, and Training (EHS&T) programs across the global fleet of operating facilities and all drilling and resource activities. The Vice President holds full accountability for safety and environmental outcomes, ensuring that EHS&T policies, programs, and advanced safety techniques align with corporate goals, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence. The role is focused on fostering a proactive safety culture that delivers safe work outcomes while driving continuous improvement and operational readiness.

The role reports directly to the Executive Vice President, Electricity Segment with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Senior Vice President, Drilling and Resources. The position is based in the US, and relocation is required. The company provides relocation support to assist with the transition.

Overview

This role leads EHS&T programs across all U.S. and international operations within the Electricity Segment, with accountability for safety and environmental outcomes, program development, regulatory alignment, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership of EHS&T Programs : Provide executive oversight and strategic direction for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Environmental, Health, Safety, and Training programs across all U.S. and international operations within the Electricity Segment.
  • Incident Management and Continuous Improvement : Oversee incident investigation processes, including root cause analysis and corrective action implementation; use findings to inform training updates and process improvements.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Risk Mitigation : Monitor compliance with local, state, federal, and international EHS regulations; lead risk assessments and audits to identify gaps and implement corrective actions to mitigate operational and environmental risks; establish and maintain proactive relationships with regulatory bodies; represent the company in regulatory forums and collaborate with internal stakeholders to interpret evolving regulations.
  • Policy and Program Development : Develop and maintain comprehensive EHS&T policies, procedures, and training programs that meet or exceed regulatory requirements and industry best practices; ensure alignment with corporate objectives and operational needs.
  • Emergency Management Planning and Response : Direct the development and execution of emergency preparedness plans across all operational sites and for drilling and resource operations; coordinate timely notification to applicable internal and external parties; provide strategic and operational support during emergencies.
  • Training Oversight and Standardization : Direct the design, delivery, and evaluation of safety and operational training programs; ensure consistency and quality across all sites, including onboarding, refresher training, and emergency readiness.
  • Auditing, Incident Management and Reporting : Design and implement robust systems to monitor EHS&T performance; oversee audit protocols; lead incident management procedures and ensure timely reporting to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Performance Metrics and Reporting : Establish and track KPIs for EHS&T effectiveness; provide regular reports to executive leadership and regulatory bodies as required.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration : Collaborate with Operations, Human Resources, Legal, and Engineering to integrate EHS&T into business planning and project execution.
  • Team Leadership and Development : Lead and mentor a team of EHS&T professionals and foster a high-performance culture.
  • Organizational Leadership and Change Management : Contribute to corporate strategy as a senior leader and drive change management to promote a proactive safety culture.

Education, Experience, and Skills

  • MUST : Minimum of 10–15 years of progressive leadership experience in Environmental, Health, Safety, and Training roles, with at least 5 years in a senior or executive-level position.
  • MUST : Proven experience in high-risk industries such as power generation, mining, and oil & gas.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in environmental science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field is preferred; extensive relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Demonstrated success leading EHS&T programs across geographically dispersed and complex environments.
  • Experience supporting or leading EHS&T initiatives at international sites; familiarity with cross-border regulatory frameworks and global standards is desirable.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation is desired; company can support certification for eligible candidates.
  • Ability to travel long distances by car and air, including to remote or international locations; travel may be extended and schedule may be variable.
