Job Description
Everest Insurance, the specialty insurance division of Everest Group, Ltd., is seeking a Chief Underwriting Officer for its Latin American (Latam) Operations based in the region. As a member of the Latam Executive leadership team ultimately reporting to the International Chief Underwriting Officer and to the Regional Heads of Latam, you will play a vital role with Everest Insurance on our journey as a world‑class underwriting organisation.
Responsibilities
Corporate Underwriting :
- Drive definition of risk appetite statements per line of business / key portfolio in line with financial plans - in close collaboration with Finance and market underwriting teams;
- Translate risk appetite into underwriting guidelines (jointly with line of business leadership and International Corporate Underwriting);
- Maintain local underwriting authority framework;
- Manage processes for underwriting referrals;
- Integrate approved peer review processes through Latam;
- Provide ad‑hoc support for group and regulatory inquiries, implementation of new regulatory requirements;
- Work with International Product Counsel to establish wording standards, wording database, and processes for manuscripting;
- Ensure the Risk Management framework is embedded into the underwriting function and that all underwriting controls are designed and operating effectively.
Ceded Reinsurance :
Support international requirements to monitor reinsurance treaties in collaboration with Everest Insurance International (EII) and line of business leads, as required to support regional financial plan;Define and maintain processes for facultative reinsurance purchases in line with international processes, in close alignment with line of business, claims and finance;Track facultative reinsurance and provide reinsurance data support to line of business and pricing teams.Learning and Development :
Build underwriting community across markets, around line of business and key themes – as a means for promoting best practices, mutual knowledge sharing and expert support across markets;Define key underwriting competency and development with line of business leaders and country leaders;Build and maintain processes for underwriting skills assessment, aligned with cascading of underwriting authority;Design appropriate learning and development offers to drive skill development and community building.Actuarial Pricing :
Work with EII Head of Pricing to ensure technical pricing models for all lines of business are fit for purpose throughout Latam including regular calibration;Support processes for monitoring of pricing adequacy, rate (exposure and pricing) incl. regular reporting and deep‑dive analyses;Advance use of new (external) data sources to drive pricing sophistication.Cat & Exposure Modelling :
In conjunction with Exposure Management and Underwriting ensure support provided for Global Cat Monitoring and event responses;Support advancement of accumulation analyses, building new and robust approaches.Portfolio Management :
Lead portfolio and technical underwriting reviews as per annual plan, working with senior line of business underwriters for expert input;Maintain standard portfolio performance reporting, in close alignment with underwriting leadership, based on finance and pricing reports;Coordinate annual financial planning process with underwriting management, working with finance, line of business teams and pricing;Drive targeted insights into portfolio trends, working with pricing team, to help identify potential adverse developments;Ad‑hoc portfolio analyses for line of business leaders;Work with line of business leaders on action plans for underperforming portfolios, as needed;Chair relevant legal entity committees to ensure that underwriting activities, objectives and controls are being met;Provide regular underwriting reports to the Latam boards.Qualifications and Experience
15+ years of insurance underwriting and related experience;Broad knowledge of property & casualty and financial lines underwriting;Ability to operate in a dynamic and high‑paced environment with a sense of urgency;Adaptable and able to manage competing priorities;Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills;Growth mindset, desire to both learn and teach.#J-18808-Ljbffr
