Project Overview:

Mining and Metals:

Increasing production of critical minerals provides key components of clean energy technologies, from wind turbines to batteries. This shift to clean energy—and the need for commodities—is critical to underpinning the energy transition. At Bechtel, our teams extract these vital resources to support net zero in a way which is more sustainable than ever before.

Job Summary:

Bechtel is looking for a CSA Engineer (Structural Civil) for the Mining and Metals equipment, based in Chile. The position will be responsible for complete and complex engineering project areas, plant structures and arrangements with minimal supervision. Plans and executes the presentation of these in graphic form or in detailed scale models. Works independently on design projects or may direct the technical work of others.

Reporting to the CSA Engineering Supervisor for project requirements, and the Chief CSA Engineer for functional requirements, you will have overall responsibility for the CSA design of Mineral Processing Plants including managing sub contracts, and coordinating with client and suppliers.

Major Responsibilities:

• Defining scope of work; prepare job-hour estimates, and resource planning.
• Preparing and updating Engineering Progress and Performance Reports (EPPR).
• Reviewing engineering deliverables for accuracy, compliance with project requirements and applicable codes and standards.
• Providing technical directions to engineers, designers, and drafters.
• Populating and maintaining quantity tracking database for CSA quantities with support from other GBU leads and third-party design house.
• Managing technical discussions with third parties such as client, suppliers, sub-contractors etc.
• Reviewing and status documents from third party design house for constructability, compliance with project requirements and applicable codes and standards, and level of detail consistent with Bechtel designs.
• Ensuring all CSA engineering tasks are completed within budget and project schedule.
• Coordinating with other disciplines within the project and providing necessary inputs to management.
• Preparing weekly/monthly progress reports as applicable.
• Performing other duties as required by Bechtel management.

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other relevant discipline from an accredited university and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.
• Previous experience working in a multidiscipline team; with an understanding of CSA engineering deliverables for major Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) projects.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• Extensive knowledge of civil and structural engineering and design applied to mineral processing plants and other industrial facilities.
• Experience in CSA deliverables of multidisciplinary engineering, procurement and construction (EPC/EPCM) projects, and understanding of the functions of construction, procurement, project control and other participating areas.
• Knowledge of constructability, construction methods and materials, and ability to incorporate these criteria during design development and review.
• Working knowledge of plant layout requirements including access for operation, maintenance and construction.
• Solid understanding of structural design in high seismic risk areas,applied knowledge of seismic design, constructability and relevant codes and standards.
• Ability to interpret and apply Chilean and other international codes and standards required by the project.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and, preferably, working as an area leader.
• Ability to define priorities, resolve complex technical issues, communicate recommendations and work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to manage technical interfaces with clients, suppliers, subcontractors and external design houses.
• Proficiency in structural analysis and office automation programs; experience with STAAD.Pro , Mathcad or equivalent tools.
• Technical leadership, coordination, mentoring, planning and performance monitoring skills.
• Relevant experience in CSA engineering and design for medium to large scale industrial or mining projects.
• Verifiable experience in review and approval of civil and structural calculations, drawings and deliverables, and experience in multidisciplinary coordination and technical leadership of engineers, designers and draftsmen.
• Demonstrated ability to control scope, hours, resources, schedule, budget and quality of engineering.
